Decision Contract
One page per hard decision, with success and failure agreed upfront and signed while everyone is calm.
On decision day, immediately after the Decision Decay Curve, on a page drafted before the meeting, decided on paper, confirmed in person.
What it is for
To install a written call so a company that has found the truth and heard it still acts, with the escape hatches closed while everyone is calm.
The failure it catches
The truth gets found and heard, and the hard call still does not get made: unmeasurable bars, delivery then a new condition, silent scope changes, endless relitigating, and hard calls presented live to saturated minds.
Why it works
A page drafted before the meeting, with measurable criteria, an automatic action, priced changes, and a named information type that alone can reopen the call, removes the hatches verbal decisions leave open. The signature while calm is what makes the team executable instead of mood-driven.
How to run it
- Draft one page per hard decision before the meeting. The meeting confirms or falsifies criteria. It does not brainstorm.
- State the decision. State the success and failure results that will confirm or change it, measurable and within the company's own control. If the measurement does not exist yet, building it is a task with a date.
- State that the action executes within a set number of days once the results read true, automatically, without a fresh debate.
- State that any change to the requirements gets written down and priced, what it invalidates, what it delays, what it costs, before taking effect.
- State what kind of information reopens this decision, and that discomfort and mood do not.
- Sign while everyone is calm. Ask, are you calm right now, and that is why we sign today and not in the middle of the next fire.
- This works only as voluntary self-binding. If it is refused twice, do not push a third time. Treat the refusal as information. Record it as its own dated state. It does not change the verdict the evidence supports.
How to read the result
The signature is the product. From that moment the team executes on what was agreed, the data comes in, and the results everyone watches together decide what happens next, instead of anyone's mood. A change that goes through the written price before taking effect is an adjustment, and the contract working. A change that takes effect without the price has skipped the change clause and is a breach, however reasonable the change was. Adjustments are counted as the contract working. Breaches are logged, dated, and counted. A second breach is treated the same way as a second refusal to sign.
How to run it well
- The one reliable signing moment is immediately after the diagnosis lands, before comfort returns. Separate the curve that creates the moment from the contract that catches it, and both go to waste.
- We tell people honestly that the contract is the newest tool in this kit. The failures it seals are ones we watched happen. The seal itself is still proving out.
Where it breaks
- This works only as voluntary self-binding. Imposed on someone, or signed under social pressure, it gets relitigated anyway.
- If it is refused twice, do not push a third time. A signature signed under pressure relitigates itself within weeks and burns the tool.
- Drafting criteria the company cannot measure is the drafter's failure, not the company's.
What would prove it wrong
Signed contracts that get overridden at execution more often than not, across companies, would mean self-binding does not hold, and the treatment would need revision.
What we watch
Whether signed pages stay signed at execution, or whether they get overridden the first hard week, and whether the seal is doing the work we claim or only the diagnosis is.
Ask yourself
- Is each success and failure criterion measurable and inside your control, and if the measurement does not exist, who builds it, by when?
- When the criteria read true, what fires, within how many days, and does anything else need to be true first?
- If you want to change a requirement later, what happens first?
- What kind of information reopens this decision, and what does not?
- Are you calm right now, and if not, why would a signature today survive the next fire?
